New Delhi: The government on Monday appointed eminent filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani as Censor Board chief. It also nominated people considered “ideologically close” to the BJP to recently vacated posts in the regulatory body, including actor-producer Jeevita, wife of actor Dr Rajasekhar and spokesperson of the Telangana BJP.

The announcement came after nine members of the Central Board of Film Certification, including its chairperson Leela Samson, resigned last week, alleging interference by the Centre.
