Resentment stories exaggerated, BJP organised party: Kiran Bedi

Reports said there is dissent in BJP over Bedi's possible projection as Delhi CM

New Delhi: Describing BJP as an "amazing and organised" party, Kiran Bedi on Monday dismissed as "exaggerated" reports of brewing resentment within it over her possible projection as the party's chief ministerial candidate.

Bedi, who was the country's first IPS officer, claimed BJP workers are happy and united over her induction in the party and likened the comments against her to as differing voices in a family.

"It's all exaggerated. I am an insider now. They (party workers) are very happy. They are very united. You can have a voice even in a family here and there. Party workers are happy, enthused and united," she said.

According to sources in the party, a number of senior Delhi BJP leaders were also not happy over the way Bedi has been projecting herself as the chief ministerial choice just four days after her induction into the party.

Earlier in the day, party MP Manoj Tiwari said Bedi is just a worker as of now and that the "best option" for the party would be to project Narendra Modi as its face in the campaign.

Asked about Tiwari's comments, Bedi said, "I will go and have a cup of tea with him. It's all about unity -- there are no egos involved -- we are all here for a higher purpose so that Delhi does not become a hub of disturbances."

Describing BJP as an "amazing and organised" party, she said it was a "mystery when and how my thoughts changed and I decided to join politics".

"I don't know when I started. There was no plan. For me it's India first. I will continue to serve whether I win or lose," he said.

Bedi, a former Team Anna member, was severely critical of Arvind Kejriwal when he had decided to float Aam Aadmi Party.

Kejriwal had even requested her to become chief ministerial candidate of AAP which she turned down.

"Probably that was not the moment. Modi has positive energy," she said when asked why she didn't pay heed to Kejriwal's request.

Asked about her old tweets against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bedi said, "It was out of anguish not anger. Anna was in agony."

She said BJP is a larger political platform, which is worth serving.

Asked to comment on Kejriwal, she said she did not believe in comparisons.

On being asked to comment on her description of Modi as a beautiful face, she said, "For me 'sundar' (beautiful) means 'saksham' (capable) and competent. I have been studying Modi's leadership qualities and work of his cabinet."

Bedi also addressed roadshows in Rohini where she urged the people to vote for a government, which can coordinate with the Centre and Lieutenant Governor and have experience of governance.

"Problem arises when there are differences between LG and CM. They tussle with each other and usually engage in mud slinging. This is not necessary every time. We should bring such a government who can coordinate.”

"I have come here to devote myself for Delhi. I am for BJP, there is BJP government in the Centre and there is need to bring that in Delhi also. I know administration and I have worked there for years and I have experience also."

She also promised that she will ensure the corruption free and "holistic administration" in the national capital.

Stressing on the security of women in the national capital, Bedi urged the people to respect women.

"Respect of women will come from each home when parents respect their daughters, brothers respect their sisters then there will be respect for women."

She also articulated a '6P formula' for women security involving parents, school principals, politicians and police among others.

"As politician our responsibility is to work for and formulate laws if they required for ensuring the security of women," she said.
