EVMs getting ready for Srirangam by-poll

Preliminary paper works for the by-poll has already started

Chennai: As election officials await Srirangam by-poll date, about 1,400 electronic voting machines are getting ready for the polls. According to EC sources, preliminary paper works for the by-poll has already started with the notification of the local revenue divisional officer V. Manoharan as the returning officer of the constituency.

There will not be any change with the number of polling booths. Already, 138 polling booths with 322 polling stations exist in the constituency and this will be continued for the ensuing polls, sources said, adding that the election date is expected to be announced any time soon.

The number of electors in Tiruchy district have surged by 40,000 new voters. As a result, Srirangam continues to be a highly populated constituency in the district with 2.6 lakh voters. Tiruchy collector K.S. Palanisamy told DC that the district administration was yet to receive any official communiqué regarding the by-election. Only after the notification is communicated, poll works will start, he said.
