BENGALURU: The police have detained more than 20 people in connection with the riots in Hosaguddadahalli and are verifying their involvement in the incident.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Alok Kumar said that the police were collecting the photos and videos recorded by the police and media personnel when the incident took place.

“We have detained 20 people in this connection. There is information that some of those who pelted stones have left the city and we will trace them. Also, a youth who abused DCP (West) Labhu Ram during the riots has also been detained. We will book them under attempt to murder and other charges.”

Around 25 people were injured in the incident and 22 were treated as out patients. Constable Santosh Kattimani, Raja Rajeshwarinagar police inspector Manjunath and ninth standard student Jabiulla, are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

“The accused teacher Ramakrishna, who was thrashed by the mob is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital. We are yet to start the probe into the alleged sexual assault on the girl student. We will question Ramakrishna once he recovers,” Mr. Kumar said.Too many versions

Meanwhile, the police are also trying to ascertain the reason why the protest turned violent. “Investigations are on to know what led to the incident.

There are too many versions about it. The accused Ramakrishna had reportedly warned the youths who used to stand near tea stall attached to the school and eve-teased the high school girls.

Those youths might have done this to avenge it, taking advantage of the allegation against him. Also, there is a version that the accused teacher had caught three youths taking obscene pictures of girls when they went to toilet.

This angle is also under investigation. We are also focusing on whether the school management had any tiff with anyone over any issue,” the police explained.
