The new twist in the life of cricketing icon M.S. Dhoni has placed a big question mark on the biopic that Neeraj Pandey intends to start in mid-2015 with Sushant Singh Rajput as the lead.
With the announcement of his retirement from active cricket, the film needs to find itself a new closure.
According to a source, “Dhoni’s decision to end his Test cricketing career puts the biopic in a different perspective. The script would need to be revised and an exciting climax has to be searched out.”
Apparently, Sushant Singh Rajput who plays Dhoni, would now have to reshuffle his dates, as the Dhoni project may be delayed by the unexpected changes in the star-cricketer’s career.
“Retirement is not quite the high-point that a screenplay in a biopic seeks as a closure to a narrative,” says the source adding, “We need to end with a victory. With Dhoni’s Test retirement, the equation between the cricket icon and his fans has changed. The film needs to be altered accordingly.”
