Former Union finance minister criticizes PM Modi for maintaining silence in Parliament on issue

Chennai: Former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for maintaining silence in Parliament on the issue of conversions and remaining in election mood. Faulting Modi for not answering questions in Parliament, Chidambaram, in an interview to Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai, said that even as

Gujarat chief minister he had not answered questions raked up in the House and only his ministers had answered them. Asked about the Bengaluru DA case verdict impact on the AIADMK, Chidambaram said, “I will not say there was no setback. But it was not a major set back to the AIADMK. The case is still on appeal. People know that corruption has taken place, but I cannot say if they want to punish the party for that.

After appeal or six months ahead of the polls (2016) there will be some clarity,” he remarked adding that there is no party to challenge the AIADMK in the election fray.“DMK is a weak and there is a vacuum only in the Opposition in Tamil Nadu. BJP is trying to capitalize it. Congress should work hard and fill that space by building up the unit and forging a strong alliance. He also said only the DMK and AIADMK can form the government in the state and parties like PMK and MDMK are irrelevant. Chidambaram admitted that BJP worker were smarter in polls.
