Suspected thief beaten by mob, succumbs to injuries

The victim’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem

Hyderabad: A suspected thief died after he was allegedly beaten up by the people who caught him red handed at Saketh Nagar in Ranga Reddy district in the early hours of Saturday.

The man, identified as Subhash, 35, was a resident of Peddamul village in Ranga Reddy district.

Vikarabad police said that at around 2.30 am, Subash and an unidentified person were trying to break open the lock of the gate of a house in the area.

The house owner T. Narasimhulu heard the sound of the lock breaking attempt.

He saw the thieves when he peeped through the window.

The people in the house alerted locals and relatives on the phone from inside the house.

“They made calls informing about the thieves. Within 10-15 minutes people rushed to the spot. While his associate gave the slip Subash was caught by the crowd. They thrashed him with hands and sticks,” said Vikarabad SI G. Ravi.

He suffered serious injuries and was shifted by cops and locals to the Vikarabad area hospital and from there to Osmania General Hospital where he succumbed.

The police booked a case under Sections 304(2) (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and for attempting burglary of the Indian Penal Code..

Subhash is survived by his wife and two kids. Policemen suspect that he was a habitual criminal as he was wearing only an undergarment and had applied lots of oil on his body.
