Forensic Science Laboratory: No ammonium nitrate in the bomb

The substances recovered from the blast site were examined in the lab on Tuesday

BENGALURU: The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts have ruled out that ammonium nitrate was used in the bomb that went off on Church Street on Sunday evening. They are still working to trace which chemical used to trigger the blast. Meanwhile, it is said the FSL has not received any timer device from the police.

A source in the FSL said that any blast site emanates smells of chemical used in the explosive. “In this case, there was no such smell. We cannot conclude which chemical has been used, without proper tests. The substances recovered from the blast site were examined in the lab on Tuesday.”

“It has no trace of ammonium nitrate, which was used in all the previous blasts in the city. We are examining the objects to trace which chemical was used to trigger explosion,” the source said.

It is also said that the police have not given any timer device to the FSL. “We had not received any timer device till Monday evening. We will just examine whatever we have been submitted by the police and give them a report,” the source added.

“The bomb had nails that were about three-inch each and other sharp objects. It was placed inside an iron pipe, which was about eight inch long,” the source said.
