What happened on the small screen this year

A look at the highs and lows of small screen in 2014

Bollywood came to the small screen: Anurag Kashyap (Yudh), Ashutosh Gowariker (Everest) and Vipul Shah (Pukaar) were among the B-town filmmakers who turned their attention to the small screen, continuing the trend that kicked off in 2013. These directors have also brought “finite” series to TV.

As did lots of new shows: Kumkum Bhagya, Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, Airlines, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh, Satrangi Sasural and Honey Singh’s India’s Raw Star were among the shows that launched this year, hastening to fill the gap left by the ending of popular shows.

The end for some: They were popular indeed while their run was on, but several shows saw the curtains come down this year. Among them were Rangrasiya, and Beintehaa. Among the long-running shows that finally saw a conclusion were Pavitra Rishta, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Devon Ke Dev Mahadev.

And not just in the workspace: Jennifer Winget and Karan Singh Grover finally confirmed what many had known for a while their marriage is over. While theirs was the most high-profile split, there were other couples too who parted ways: Gauhar Khan-Kushal Tandon, Tanisha Mukherjee-Armaan Kohli. On the bright side, there were couples who had happier developments to celebrate: Kamya Punjabi and Karan Patel are rumoured to have found love, while Mouni Roy and Mohit Raina are finally being more open about their relationship.
