Mumbai: The days when two actresses working together inevitably had catfights to spice up the proceedings are gone.
Decades ago, tabloids would mop up news when Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee warred on the sets of Yash Chopra’s Daag and when Kareena Kapoor called Bipasha Basu a “kaali billi” on the sets of Ajnabee.
But none of the actresses who have worked together in recent times have been at each other’s throats. Neither Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri in Main Tera Hero nor Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi in Dedh Ishqiya.
This week Deepika Padukone joined the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. And there was instant camaraderie between Priyanka and Deepika. Says a source from the film’s core team, “We felt there would be awkwardness between them because Deepika has the title role, also because of Deepika’s proximity to Ranveer. So there was lots of tension in the air before Deepika started shooting.”
However, the tension proved unfounded. Adds the source, “The minute Deepika walked in, there were positive vibes between Priyanka and her. They spent a lot of time laughing and chatting together.”
Bhansali, who is known to bring his actresses together in his films, (remember Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai in Dola re dola in Devdas?), plans to bring Deepika and Priyanka together for a dance number in the film. “Sanjay Bhansali has composed solo songs for both his actresses. And then there is that song where Deepika and Priyanka will dance together.”
Considering their hit dance moves in separate numbers of Ram Leela, it would be interesting to see Deepika and PC dance together.
