World looking at India, we have to be ready, says PM Modi

'Technology alone cannot serve the purpose unless it has a human touch'

New Delhi/Lucknow: Making a strong pitch for producing good teachers in large numbers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a mission in this regard amid his assertion that the whole world is looking at India with great expectations “but we are not ready”.

Speaking at a function held in Banaras Hindu University said that technology alone cannot serve the purpose unless it has a human touch. Humans should use technology and not vice versa. Mr Modi emphasised that the education system should ensure overall personality development and not just making robots.

The Prime Minister said, “In this land of the Ganga, there was education of culture. But, more importantly, there was a culture of education. People always thank their mother and teacher for their achievements. The richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor wants good education for his child. The world today needs good teachers and India, with its immense youth power, can export teachers to the world”.

As he himself marked December 25 as “Good Governance Day”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his effort is aimed at “re-engineering” processes in the government to ensure that people get an “open and accountable administration”.

Mr Modi said his government has worked over the last seven months with the mantra of “citizen-first” and it is committed to providing a transparent and accountable administration, which works for the welfare of the common man.

“An open and accountable administration is what we had promised to deliver and we will do so,” he said.
