Power project plan sparks row in Telangana

Senior Congress MP from Nalgonda, Gutta Sukhender Reddy thanked KCR
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to set up a 7,800 MW mega power project in Nalgonda district has created discord among the Congress leaders belonging to different districts.
Senior Congress MP from Nalgonda Gutta Sukhender Reddy on Wednesday thanked the Chief Minister for the decision while former minister D. K. Aruna from neighbouring Mahbubnagar district said Gattu mandal in Gadwal Assembly segment, which is represented by her, would be better for a power plant.
“We are not against a power plant in Nalgonda, but what about the pending proposal in Gadwal Assembly segment. We have rail connectivity and also abundant water availability. Implement the promise made to Mahbubnagar district first,” she told the CM.
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakara Reddy had a different take. He said it is unjustified and unwise to shift the 7,800 MW mega power project, originally decided at Kinnerasani project in Khammam district to Nalgonda.
“We have lost many things after bifurcation. Mr Rao himself announced a mega power project near the Kinnerasani dam,” Mr Ponguleti said.
