No one can take Rucha’s place in my life: Vishal Singh

Vishal Singh, aka Jigar from Saathiya, tells us why he misses former co-star Rucha Hasabnis and more

Vishal Singh has become a household name with his portrayal of Jigar in Saath Nibhana Saathiya. And Vishal talks about his role and more.

You have a namesake in the industry the older actor Vishal Singh, who was part of the comedy show Dekh Bhai Dekh. Do people often get confused between the two of you?
There have been a few incidents when people have wanted to call him, but contacted me instead. We don’t know each other personally, but during my school days, I used to watch his show DBD. The plus point is that there’s quite an age difference between us so people can separately identify us.

Jigar is the role that’s responsible for your popularity. How much do you relate to Jigar?
Yes, whatever fan following I’ve got today, at least 90 per cent of it is due to my role as Jigar. I think I’m quite like him in real life — I think I’m a good person, just like him, and I respect everyone. Jigar is very attached to his family, as am I to mine.

Recently, Saathiya took an eight-year leap. What were your concerns after the leap?
I wanted to see how the story would progress; I didn’t want the kids to look older… nowadays, children look mature even when they’re 13-14, I didn’t want them to look older (as a consequence). But when I heard the story, I liked it because it was new and interesting. I am more concerned about the next leap because it will be a big one.

You and Rucha (who played Rashi) had a wonderful chemistry. Do you miss her on the set?
I really do miss Rucha a lot. Yesterday, I was shooting a scene with Devoleena where I’m looking at a photo of Rucha and crying. I missed her a lot looking at those photos; no one can take Rucha’s place in my life.
