VS Achuthanandan no to CB probe on vandalism

Achuthanandan said the truth would come out only after a free and fair probe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Saturday rejected yet again the CPM state leadership’s endorsement of Crime Branch probe nailing his supporters as accused in vandalism case.

Achuthanandan said the truth would come out only after a free and fair probe. Reacting to questions from mediapersons here, the veteran leader said; “Everything would be clear if Special Investigation Team questions the accused in a honest manner.”

The Opposition Leader’s reaction came soon after the statement of his former aide Latheesh B Chandran, the prime accused in the case, that he will appear before the probe team on December 22.

The memorial of Krishna Pillai, the founder leader of the communist movement in the state, was set ablaze and vandalised at Muhamma on October 31,2013.

It may be recalled immediately after crime branch registered cases against five persons including Latheesh and former local committee secretary of Kannarkat P Sabu, the CPM expelled the two. The state secretariat justified the disciplinary action saying that the vandalisation of P Krishna Pillai memorial was an unpardonable crime.

Earlier in the day, Latheesh who rejected the CPM charge, told mediapersons; “I was swinging between life and death. But VS statement that the case was a conspiracy hatched by

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has given me hope to live. It has brought me back to life and given the courage to fight the case legally.”

If CPM was sincere then why has it not conducted a probe at the party level to find out the truth? Latheesh asked.
