Vigilance files case against Arun Kumar

Arun Kumar was the MD of Coirfed which is the apex body of over 600 coir cooperative societies across the state

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau on Saturday registered a case against Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan's son V A Arunkumar in connection with alleged financial irregularity during his tenure as managing director of Coir Board .

Vigilance special investigation team SP S Sasidharan filed the FIR before Thiruvuananthapuram Vigilance Court. The vigilance probe team had unearthed irregularities to the tune of Rs 47 lakhs in connection with the construction of a go-down for the company in Cherthala.

Apart from Arunkumar, the vigilance team has arraigned company’s consultant R K Ramesh and contractor Mohammadali as second and third accused in the case respectively.

The complaint related to the financial irregularities was first filed by one Mohandas before the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau. Arun Kumar was the MD of Coirfed which is the apex body of over 600 coir cooperative societies across the state.

The ruling UDF is gearing up to corner Achuthanandan in connection with the vigilance cases registered against his son.

With the Opposition Leader leading the LDF charge against the Government in bar bribe case, solar case and now liquor policy, the ruling front is hoping to embarrass the veteran leader at least for the moment by raking up the alleged corrupt deals of his son.

The veteran leader, however, had all along maintained that the vigilance cases against his son were politically motivated and had favoured free and fair probe into these allegations.
