Girl pours acid on lover for marrying another woman

They liked each other and Mr Ramana promised to marry her

Guntur: A woman threw acid on her boyfriend in Guntur district on Saturday for marrying another woman.

Nallapadu police station circle inspector Ajay Kumar said P. Venkata Ramana, a resident of Mantripalem of Nagaram mandal and G. Sowjanya, 26, of Narasaraopeta, were in a relationship for the past four years.

Mr Ramana earlier worked as a mathematics lecturer in a private college in Narasaraopeta. Ms Sowjanya was his student there.

They liked each other and Mr Ramana promised to marry her. Ms Sowjanya is studying M.Sc in Narasaraopeta.

Last year, Mr Ramana joined MBTS Polytechnic College, Nallapadu, near Guntur. The two were in constant touch but from August this year, Mr Ramana started avoiding Ms Sowjanya.

On Saturday, Ms Sowjanya came to the the polytechnic college in Guntur from Narasaraopeta and called Mr Ramana. Soon the conversation between them turned into a heated argument.

Angry with Mr Ramana, Ms Sowjanya poured acid on him, which burnt his face and hands. Ms Sowjanya also received minor injuries.

Locals immediately called the police, who shifted Mr Ramana to Government General Hospital, Guntur, and arrested Ms Sowjanya.

Police said according to Ms Sowjanya, Mr Ramana got married on August 15 and hid the fact. She further alleged that Mr Ramana tried to continue the relationship and two days ago he had asked her to be his concubine, which angered her. She said that Mr Ramana ditched her and married a working woman.

The doctors of GGH said that Mr Ramana received burn injuries on his face, chest and hands, but his condition is now stable. Nallapadu police registered a case.
