Mumbai: Former chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Meenakshi Jaiswal, 47, was found murdered at her Kharghar residence on Friday night. She was killed during a robbery by three persons who used to work at her place.
Police cracked the case within six hours with two of the accused being arrested while hunt is on for the third. Jaiswal lived alone while her husband Santoshkumar is a judge in Nashik district sessions court.
Two of her sons are doctors and currently pursuing their post graduation at Nashik and Dhule. Her son Dr Vidyasagar Jaiswal, who is currently pursuing a Diploma in Child Health at Nashik, said he had last spoken to his mother on Thursday evening.
“We didn’t speak on Friday. My father had spoken to her briefly on Friday around 2:40 pm before he went inside the court. He called again around 5 pm, after court hours, but she was not responding. He then called me and asked me to check but I too couldn’t get through,” said Dr Vidyasagar.
Police said the assailants took four bangles, two finger rings a mangalsutra, a wrist watch and some cash worth around Rs 2 lakh.
The murder weapon and the looted ornaments are yet to be recovered but the police said that they should be found when the absconding accused is apprehended.
