Amitabh Bachchan mourns for mother on seventh death anniversary

He remembers the pain his family underwent in Teji's last moments

Mumbai: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, says he does not want to remember the years he has spent in his mother's absence. Bachchan, 72, took to his blog to pay tribute to Teji today on her seventh death anniversary. "Maa! Just felt like saying the word... I lost my mother today. And I do not want to remember the years that have gone by since...," he wrote on his blog.

Teji, a social activist, died in 2007 aged 93 after prolonged illness in Mumbai. "I shall visit her framed photograph; her beautiful face in marriage attire; a shy smile on her lips and remember her..." The evergreen star reminisced his childhood days with his mother and said she always instilled courage and confidence in him. "Her soft manicured hands gently running through my hair. The fragrance of her perfume lingering in the silk and chiffon sari, that enveloped me in her arms in times of trial. The reassurance of her words 'that all will be well' whispered in my ears almost. The confidence she instilled to fight back in times of adversity and turbulence. Her own protective aggression to take on an army of not too pleasant and ugly neighbours, who threatened her children, wooden rod in hand chasing the tormentor, warrior like. The repeated learnings of humility and gentle manners, of prayer and faith," he wrote.

Remembering the pain Bachchan and the whole family went through in Teji's last moments, he said, "She fought her life through with guts and no remorse. Four times did the 'straight lines' appear on the monitor that was connected to her, and four times did she defeat it by get them alive and active again. But when I saw her frail body taking the beating of revival by a team of dedicated doctors, I asked them to stop and stop the extreme pain that she must be bearing even in a state of coma. We stood there, all of us family holding hands by her side and allowed her to depart in peace."
