Congress against Metro change

The change of alignment will increase the burden on the government by a few thousand crore

Hyderabad: Four Congress MLAs objected to the change in alignment of the Metro Rail line on the Lakdikapul Assembly stretch.

They said that the line will not damage the Gunpark Memorial or the 100 year old Assembly buildings.

The legislators on Friday arrived at Gunpark memorial and began taking measurements across the road near Akashavani building where the pillars have already been laid.

Speaking to media they said the existing pillars were 150 ft away from Gunpark memorial and 400 ft away from the Assembly buildings and the Metro Rail section between

Lakdikapul Ravindra Bharati Akashvani Old Control Room will not damage the structures as stated by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“If the alignment is changed now and the Metro line is diverted behind the Assembly buildings, it will pass close to another historic building, the Jubilee Hall.

The change of alignment will increase the burden on the government by a few thousand crore. That money can be spent on new routes for the Metro Rail services,” said Congress MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

The other Congress legislators Makam Rangareddy, M.S. Prabhakar (MLCs) and T. Rammohan Reddy had said there seems to be a conspiracy behind the CM’s statement about the likely damages to Assembly buildings on account of the Metro, without any scientific survey or report suggesting the same. It is better that the government sticks to the existing line and allows L&T to continue the work," they added.
