Mumbai: They may be shooting in different parts of the world and may be too busy to catch up sometimes. If professional commitments haven’t kept them apart, occasionally even personal equations (or the lack thereof) have held back some Kapoors from bonding socially.
But the one occasion that unites the first family of Bollywood is the grand Christmas lunch at Shashi Kapoor’s place. He and his wife started the tradition of hosting a classic English lunch on Christmas day and it continues to remain an important part of the Kapoor social calendar.
Generations of Kapoors descend upon Shashi’s Janki Kutir residence in Juhu on this day. Shashi being unwell, his children Kunal and Sanjana have made sure that every year, they host this afternoon of great food, great spirits and warm company.
Invites for this year’s lunch have already been sent out to family members and dearest friends. A member of the family said that it’s a tradition that has been followed for years and everybody actually looks forward to this day. Wherever anyone is shooting or is busy with some work, he or she makes sure to take a day off and is there for the big lunch. Known to be foodies, the Kapoors look forward to the traditional English Christmas staple of leg of ham, turkey, puddings and pies, et al.
The guestlist usually sees Krishna Raj Kapoor, her sons Rishi, Randhir and Rajeev, as well as daughters Ritu and Reema and their respective families. While last year Ranbir Kapoor brought along his best friends Ayan Mukerji and Aarti Shetty to the gathering, there’s a good chance that he could take his girlfriend and actress Katrina Kaif as his +1 this year. He’s spent a good part of this year doing up his home with Katrina.
Kareena Kapoor and husband Saif Ali Khan too will make it a point to attend the get together before heading out for their annual vacation in Gstaad, Switzerland.
Shashi Kapoor’s son Kunal was unavailable for a comment.
