55th Kalotsav all set to become tech savvy

25,000 participants to get updates

KOZHIKODE: With hardly a month to go for Asia’s largest school fest, the ‘55th Kerala School Kalotsav,’ the ‘It@School’ education department is all set to make the fest more technologically enabled.

Not only will free Wi-Fi be offered at all the venues, SMS alerts will also be sent to the 25,000 and more registered participants, their parents and teachers, regularly updating them on the happenings at the fest.

“Prior to every performance, they will receive an SMS alert, giving them all the details and rules to be followed, including the stage set-up,” says Executive Director, IT@School, Noufal KP.

In short, the lives of over 12,000 students and their families are likely be made easier using technology. "The web interface for the whole fest will help to make the process more transparent and easy to follow.

The light weight website has been designed to load easily on to any Internet browser and offers almost all information on the competitions at the fest.

The list of participants in each event can be viewed online and it also automates the rank list generation process,” explains Noufal, revealing that the tabulation and score sheets for the judges will also be system generated. “All these attempts are being made to bring down the number of complaints registered at the fest,” he adds.

Says Ratheesh Raghunath, in-charge of ‘It@school’ for Kalotsav, “We are also in the process of developing a mobile app on an android platform, which can be downloaded from the Google play store. Over 100 it@school team members are working round- the- clock to build effective software and applications."

In addition, sites are being developed in such a way that even a user with low speed Internet can access the information quickly.
