Ministry of Defence clears Rs 4,000 crore deals

The proposals cleared include floating of a fresh RFP for acquisition of a survey vessel

New Delhi: A meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council headed by defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday cleared proposals worth over Rs 4,000 crore.

However, no decision was taken at the meeting on the pending proposal for manufacturing 56 transport aircraft by the Tata-Airbus combine to replace the IAF’s ageing Avro fleet. The plan is expected to cost about Rs 12,000 crore.

The proposals cleared include floating of a fresh RFP for acquisition of a survey vessel for Navy that is expected to cost about Rs 2,324 crore.

A fresh RFP will be issued after a decision to replace the proposed Naval Utility Helicopter on board with the Advanced Light Helicopter. The vessel will also be larger and heavier now.
