Hyderabad on top against Goa in Ranji trophy match

Bowlers Ravi Kiran and Pragyan Ojha put Hyderabad in commanding posiiton

Hyderabad: Hyderabad have cornered Goa in their Ranji Trophy Plate Division Group ‘C’ league match being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here. By close of play on the third day, the visitors were struggling at 236 for 6, still 332 runs behind Hyderabad’s mammoth first innings total of 568 for 7 declared. After the hosts declared at their overnight score, Goa got off to the worst start possible. Opener Swapnil Asnodkar fell for a duck, caught by Pragyan Ojha off mediumpacer Ravi Kiran. The other Asnodkar — Rohit too failed to open his account, Ravi the bowler again, who trapped him leg before wicket.

Amogh Desai too was gone and at 58 for 3, Goa were shaky when No.3 Sagun Kamat took charge. The left-hander combined well with Keenan Vaz to build an 83-run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter was out, lbw to left-arm spinner Ojha, after making 45. His knock came off 101 balls and contained seven boundaries. Kamat then raised another 50 runs for the fifth wicket with Darshan Misal before being dealt a cruel blow by Ojha. Kamat fell agonisingly short of what would have been a well-deserved century, caught by Ravi Teja, at 97. The 215-ball knock was embellished with 12 boundaries and a six.

After a while, Darshan (36) too made his way to the pavilion, falling leg before wicket to C.V. Milind.Saurabh Bandekar and Shadab Jakati were batting on 22 and 8 respectively when stumps were drawn.
