Forced conversion: Jackson coerced to be Jaikishan

Mr Jackson is petrified over the reconversion campaign

Lucknow: Anil Jackson, a retired driver, is a worried man these days. He is worried about the safety of his sons, Atul and Ashish, and daughter Aruna and has stopped them from moving out of the house since the past one week.

“Last week, three men wearing saffron scarves and bands came to my ho-use and asked us to reconvert to Hinduism. They warned that if we do not reconvert, they will teach us a lesson,” says Mr Jackson. The men did not specify the organisation to which they belong.

Mr Jackson, who lives in Christian Colony, almost in the backyard of the UP Chief Minister’s residence, is petrified over the reconversion campaign.

In 1993, Anil Jaikishan became Anil Jackson and he was working as a driver in a Christian missionary school in Lucknow.

“No one forced me to become a Christian. My sons are now computer engineers and my daughter is a teacher. I am a Hindu by heart by and Christian by religion and I do not understand why I cannot practice both religions. We celebrate Diwali and Christmas with equal fervor but these people are now threatening us if we do not reconvert,” he said.
