Telangana to get tough with land grabbers in Hyderabad, says Chief Minister KCR

Rao chaired an all-party meeting to discuss various issues concerning Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana government plans to act tough towards land grabbers here, but be liberal in dealing with poor people looking for a shelter in the city, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Tuesday.

Rao chaired an all-party meeting to discuss various issues concerning Hyderabad, like regularisation of existing houses, according to a release issued by his office.

Stressing the need to end the scourge of land grabbing in the city, he said his government plans to bring tough laws for the purpose.

He sought the cooperation of public representatives and officials to end the problem and made different proposals, which include free regularisation of property of the poor who set up shelters in plots upto 125 square yards and regularisation, at a small price, for those living in plots of around 300 square yards.

Regularisation would be done by increasing the price per 100 square yards for those living in plots up to 500 square yards, the release said.

However, those who built houses in plots of more than 400 square yards would be charged a heavy price for the same.

The government plans to provide housing in multi-storeyed buildings for those living in plots of around 50 square yards, while vacant land will be taken possession of by the government, the release said.

Rao also favoured setting up constituency-wise committees comprising MLAs and officials to decide who comes under which category.
