St George emerges victorious school

The meet saw Ernakulam come first with a tally of 289 points

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Schools Athletics Championship yet again proved to be no great competition for St. George’s HSS, Kothamangalam, which topped the charts for the ninth consecutive year with 83 points.

The meet saw Ernakulam come first with a tally of 289 points followed by Palakkad with 190 and Kozhikode with 156. This meet had a total of 23 records and 7 individual champions from the 6 categories.

The triple medals of Smruthimol, Omkar Nath and Pranav K S propelled the school to victory. They clinched the top position with a lead of just a single point which pushed Mar Basil HSS, Kothamangalam, to the second spot with 82 points.

The third position was taken by HS Parli, Palakkad with 75 points. Even while in the midst of the joy of bagging the top spot St George’s had a small grievance.

“Our school does not have a proper ground for these athletes. We have even generated Olympians from our school and we hope that some funds will be allotted at least now for us to make a proper ground”, says mr Raju Paul of St. George’s.

The last day of the meet saw competitions being organised for the teachers, who had stood by as their wards vied for honours at the 58th school athletics. The mentors as well as participants have returned from the arena, with a resolve to laurels at the national meet.
