First timer Anjali bags three gold

She won her golds for the Sub Junior Girls 400m, 200m and 100m races

Thiruvananthapuram: Anjali P D, a mere first timer at the Kerala State Schools Athletics Championship, surprised everyone by clenching 3 golds and becoming an individual champion in the sub junior category.

She could have even corrected a 27 year old meet record set by Sindhu Mathew in 1987 if not for a lapse of 37milliseconds.

An 8th standard student of Government Fisheries HSS, Nattika, Anjali trains at Nattika Sports Academy under coach Kannan.

She won her golds for the Sub Junior Girls 400m, 200m and 100m races. “I am very happy that I could perform really well at my very first attempt at such an event”, says Anjali.

In the 200m race Anjali secured a huge lead in the first 100 meters itself. “Initially there was a curve that I had to tackle, but after that I was quite confident and wanted to take as much lead as I could get”, says Anjali. Anjali whose best at practice is 26.30 which is the current meet record had to settle in for 26.67 this time.

Anjali who is just in her sub junior category definitely has a long way to go and DC wishes this little champ all the very best.
