Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar reviews security situation in Jammu and Kashmir

He was also briefed by senior army officers about the situation in the Valley

Srinagar: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar made his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir today, days after the recent fidayeen or suicide attack on an Army camp in Uri near the Line of Control.

He paid homage at the War Memorial at the Badamibagh headquarters of the Army's 15 Corps to eight soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel, who were killed in the attack on the Uri camp on December 5.

He was also briefed by senior army officers about the situation in the Valley and along the Line of Control, an Army official said.

He was briefed about the counter-infiltration grid in place along the LoC as well as the counter-insurgency grid in the hinterland.
