Army authorities, civilians fight over garbage dumping in Hyderabad

Army on Tuesday cleaned up the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar regular dumping site

Hyderabad: The issue of dumping garbage adjacent to the main road of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, East Marredpally (near Allahabad Gate), has led to a confrontation between 1,000 families and the Army authorities (AOC).

The stand off, which had been on for the last three days, turned intense on Tuesday when the Army deployed armed men to supervise residents on the main stretch. This led to a protest by the residents and around 20 city police officials had to intervene to restore order.

The Army on Tuesday cleaned up the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar regular dumping site and set up a temporary outpost by deploying jawans to monitor residents; armed officials were also deployed on the main road to keep watch.
