Farhan Akhtar plans to work on film set in pre-independent era

The actor talks about acting, his passion for directing and his future projects

Hyderabad: Bollywood actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar plans to work on a movie set in pre-independent India, a venture he says will have universal appeal. As a director, the multifaceted Farhan says he would like to experience "another sort of film". "The film that I have in mind is a period drama set in India in 1905. In terms of the content, I feel it is definitely going to be something that appeals to everyone, regardless of culture and language," Akhtar told PTI.

Akhtar, 40, who made his directorial debut with 'Dil Chahta Hai' in 2001 and began acting career seven years later with 'Rock On', said he is open to work in Hollywood as long as he can connect with the role. He also said he likes directing as much as acting. "But I can't do both at the same time. When I am acting I would like to concentrate on it exclusively, the same is for directing. I believe that when you have the passion and potential to show something then flaunt it without hesitation," he said.

When asked what motivates him, Akhtar said, "I think if you have the passion in life that keeps you going. I try and give 100 per cent in everything that I do and focus on one thing at a time." Akhtar said that there has been a lot of change in the way movies were made in the first decade of 21st century and now. "There is a great emergence of new talent whose influences are not just based on films that were made in their languages, (but) there has been influences from all over the world. I think that is the big change," he said.
