Sexual assault: Swami undergoes medical test

No potency tests were conducted as the seer declared he was a man

Bengaluru: Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami of the Ramachandrapura Math, who has been accused of sexually harassing a 48-year-old singer, underwent a set of medical tests at the Institute of Nephro Urology in Victoria Hospital campus on Friday.
As per the advice the seer had come in an empty stomach in the morning. He was taken to dialysis centre, where general check up such as blood pressure, heart beat, ECG and sugar levels were tested. As he was found normal and fit to undergo various medical tests, he was given breakfast and was subjected to other tests, that started around 9.15 am.
Later Durganna told reporters that the investigating agency had asked the doctors to perform 16 types of tests. “However, only 13 types of tests for which the seer gave consent were conducted, while he was not willing to undergo the other three tests. As we cannot force him to undergo tests, we did not conduct them. The samples collected during the tests have been seen for detailed analysis and based on the laboratory report, which will be submitted to the CID. It would take 15 days to a month’s time.”
Meanwhile, the seer’s counsel Shambu Sharma alleged that the CID officials were hurrying with the medical tests. “Even before we received the High Court order, the CID police issued notice asking the seer to appear for medical tests. We had sought a week’s time, but the CID officials gave us just two days.”
The Math has released a statement that the seer cooperated with the doctors who conducted the test and with the investigating officials. “The seer was not subjected to any tests that would embarrass him. The seer had made it clear to the investigating authority and the court that he was a man and thus no potency test was conducted on him. Only blood samples were taken to conduct DNA test,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, the CID officials said that they would talk to the seer about the remaining three tests and ask him to undergo them, as he was facing serious charges.
It may be recalled that the seer had moved the high court challenging the notice issued by the CID police to appear for medical test in connection with the case. The court, on Wednesday, had quashed the petition following which the CID officials issued a fresh notice to the seer to appear for medical tests.
