Chennai: LPG customers have started lining up at their cylinder dealers and banks for enrolling into the DB TL (direct benefit transfer of LPG) scheme.
LPG cylinder outlets saw a generous crowd awaiting to get enrolled on Thursday. The DBTL scheme is all set to come into effect in Tamil Nadu and across the country on January 1 next year. The scheme was started as a pilot project in November this year in 54 districts of 11 states.
States including Andhra Pradesh, Daman and Diu, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Punjab and Telangana were in the pilot scheme. According to the scheme LPG users will start getting cash subsidy in their bank accounts so that they can buy cooking gas at market price.
S. Chandran, DGM of Indian Oil for Tamil Nadu, says, “As the scheme comes into effect in Tamil Nadu after December 31, customers who have registered under the DBTL will receive Rs 568 in their bank account. The ones who have not, will have a grace period of another three months ending March 31 during which they will receive cylinders at subsidized rates. After March 31, there are another three months when the susidised cylinders will not be given but the customer will have to buy them at the market rate. Once the customer registers, the extra money paid will be refunded.”
After July 1 there will not be any refunds and cylinders will be available only at market rates. Consumers who have joined the scheme earlier and have received cash subsidy in their bank accounts do not need to do anything further.
