Government keeps its word on welfare

Only a few projects were pending and waiting for approval from Centre

Chennai: Asserting that most of the announcements made by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa under Assembly rule 110 on welfare projects have been implemented while few others were under various stages of implementation, CM O. Panneerselvam told the Assembly on Thursday that only a few projects were pending and waiting for approval from Centre.

Replying to a special calling attention motion moved by members of the opposition parties on the fate of a slew of 110 announcements, he said DMK Floor Leader M K Stalin’s charge that no action had been taken on those projects and schemes was “far from truth.” He claimed that of the 666 welfare projects announced by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Assembly, 218 have been completed. About 317 welfare schemes were under various stages of implementation.

He recalled Ms Jayalalithaa’s speech during the Lok Sabha election campaign that as many as 430 announcements had been made under Rule 110 and government orders were issued on 424 of them and works progressing in the right direction.
