Insurance Bill likely to be tweaked

The select committee has accepted 88 amendments by the UPA

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha select committee chairman Chandan Mitra said that proposed changes in the Insurance Bill would be incorporated, but did not specify what exactly these amendments were.

In November, the Rajya Sabha extended the deadline for the select committee on the Insurance Amendment Bill and asked it to submit its report by December 12.

The government, for its part, is also making efforts to ensure that the committee submits its report by December 12 so that it can push through the draft bill in the ongoing Winter Session.

The select committee has accepted 88 amendments by the UPA. Besides the Congress, the government has also been trying to work on building support within the committee with the help of smaller parties.
