Hubballi: Around 25 girl students vacated a backward class hostel in Kalghatagi town of Dharwad district after one of them was sexually assaulted by some miscreants early on November 29.
Sources said that the miscreants entered the hostel by climbing over the hostel compound wall and molested the girl. A few hours later, the entire BCM Hostel emptied out as the girl students, who were already facing constant harassment from lumpen elements in the area, were petrified after the incident.

After receiving the complaint, the Kalghatagi police and officials from the social welfare department visited the hostel and conducted an inquiry. Kalghatagi police station Sub-Inspector R.J. Neelammanavar admitted that 23 inmates of the girls’ hostel had gone back to their hometowns fearing more attacks.
