3 week long Chembai music festival will conclude on Ekadasi day

THRISSUR: The temple town of Guruvayur is all decked up to celebrate Ekadasi on Tuesday when thousands of people are expected to visit the place.

The three-week-long Chembai music festival will conclude on Ekadasi day. Rendering of Tyagaraja’s Pancharatna (Pancharatna Keerthanalapanam) composition will be held on Monday. Around 100 musicians will take part in Pancharatna Keerthanalapanam. The festival features around 4,000 artists.

The elephants of Guruvayur Devaswom will pay homage to legendary Guruvayur Kesavan on its death anniversary on Monday.

About 40 elephants will be taken in a procession from Thiruvenkidachalapathy temple to garland Kesavan's statue on the Sreevalsam compound adjacent to the temple.

Hundreds of devotees and elephant lovers will witness the elephant procession. Kesavan, the most celebrated elephant of Kerala, was donated to Guruvyaur temple by the royal family of Nilambur.

The devaswom has made elaborate arrangements for a mass feast to all those who gather at the temple to participate in the celebrations.

Hindus consider Ekadasi, the eleventh day of every lunar fortnight, as special. Of the 24 Ekadasis a year, the Vrischika Ekadasi (Shukla Paksha) is celebrated in Guruvayur Sreekrishna temple. It coincides with the Mandala season.
