HIV positive teen sexually abuses minor, held

The suspect's mother had also died of AIDS

Thiruvananthapuram: A 19-year-old HIV patient was arrested for sexually abusing a minor girl after luring her with fake promises of marriage.

Police sources said the accused abused the girl with the intention to infect her. The accused who is a resident of Mannoorkara near Kottur was arrested by Medical College police on Saturday.

The accused, the police said, was in an affair with the girl residing near Kunchveedu temple at Medical College. Police sources said he convinced the victim to elope with him.

On November 19, he took the girl to a friend’s house in Chenkottukonam and sexually abused her. Based on the complaint by victim’s mother, a team under Medical College Circle inspector Sheen Tharayil has initiated the probe.

Earlier, when the police team raided his hideout, the accused managed to escape. Then, based on cellphone location he was held from Kottur. In the routine medical test that followed it was revealed that he was an HIV patient.

On being interrogated he confessed that he was aware of the disease and was undergoing treatment. The suspect's mother had also died of AIDS.

Whereabouts of his father are not known. The victim who has passed class X was attending tailoring classes.

The accused was produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody. Medical College sub inspectors K Vikraman and A Babu were also part of the team which arrested the youth.
