No protests in 1.5 km radius from Suvarna Vidhan Sodha

Over 5,000 policemen will be deployed around the soudha during the 10-day session
Belagavi: With several organisations threatening to disrupt the winter session of the state legislature starting in Belagavi from December 9 , the police has decided to keep all protesters a good distance from the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha until December 20 when it is scheduled to end.
Over 5,000 policemen will be deployed around the soudha during the 10-day session to keep agitators at least 1.5 kms from it unlike in the past when most agitations were staged before the soudha.
The last session even saw a sugarcane grower commit suicide in the open ground before it. To make sure there are no more such incidents, all agitations will now be confined to the Suvarna Garden, about 1.5 kms away from the main building and an officer of the rank of superintendent of police will keep an eye on them to see that there is no escalation of trouble. A temporary police station will also be created nearby as an added precaution, according to police sources.
The police is also making sure that ministers don’t need to leave the session to meet the agitators, and is instructing representatives of all organisations to submit their memorandums to them through the heads of the departments concerned.
Besides the lakhs of sugarcane growers who are demanding a better price for their produce and the Belgaum Bar Association, which is agitating for the establishment of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal in the district, several other organisations too are preparing to protest during the session here.
