The state government has filed a defamation case against him
Chennai: The state government has filed a defamation case against DMDK chief and leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijayakanth for making remarks against minister for milk and dairy development B.V. Ramanaa in connection with procurement of milk for Aavin.
On behalf of the minister, city public prosecutor, M.L. Jegan filed the petition before the principal sessions court in Chennai on Friday. In the petition, minister stated that Vijayakanth made defamatory statements against him in connection with procurement of milk from private persons. The news item was published in a Tamil daily on November 11.
Jegan said Vijaykanth issued the statement without verifying facts. He said due to efforts of the government Aavin had increased the milk procurement from 20.64 lakh litres in October 31, 2014 to 24.88 lakh litres on November 23, 2014. As Vijayakanth leveled serious charges against the minister, he is liable to be punished under Section 50, IPC, said Jegan.
