Bird flu: Mayor Tony Chammany convenes review meeting

Intensive measures would be taken to address any situation

KOCHI: A review meeting convened by Mayor Tony Chammany on Friday decided to step up preventive measures against avian flu.

Though no confirmed cases of avian flu was reported from Ernakulam district, intensive measures would be taken to address any situation.

The Corporation’s health wing will conduct awareness classes for duck and chicken farmers on Monday.

During the review meeting, district animal health officer Dr. Paul T Kunnath spoke about the situation in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts.

“Avian flu will have serious and far reaching consequences in a city like Kochi. Hence, effective preventive measures have to be taken.

People should be aware of how the virus will spread and how to prevent contamination,” he said.
