Power problem to be solved in three years

The state is facing a deficit of nearly 1,000 MW at present

Hyderabad: The Telangana government would facilitate merchant power plants of 300 MW to 400 MW in the large industrial parks apart from developing common effluent treatment plants through joint venture or public private mode, since it is possible to operate and maintain a CETP on commercial lines.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who introduced the Bill in the House termed the new policy as “historic” and thanked all the parties for unanimously adopting it thereby sending a positive signal to investors and entrepreneurs in the country and across the globe that the new state of Telangana with Hyderabad as capital would be the ideal destination for setting up industries.

Admitting that the present power crisis in the state was a matter of concern, Mr Rao expressed confidence that it would not impact new investments in the state since the situation will improve in a year and the state is poised to become a power surplus state in three years from now.

“The state is facing a deficit of nearly 1,000 MW at present. Due to the various steps being taken by the government about 1,500 MW would be added by June next year. It would take at least a year for fresh investors to launch industrial production. By that time, we will be in a position to supply adequate power to industries,” he added.

The government has identified some thrust areas. They are life sciences including biotechnology and pharma, IT Hardware including medical devices and communications. aviation, aerospace and defence, food processing and nutrition products, automobiles, farm equipment and transport vehicles, textiles, leather and apparel and related products, plastics and polymers, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and domestic appliances, engineering and capital goods, gems and jeweller, waste management and green technologies, renewable energy and solar parks.
