Delhi HC quashes government's nursery admission guidelines

HC terms it violation of the constitution as well as fundamental rights of pvt schools

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday quashed the government's nursery admission guidelines, thereby, restoring the administrative autonomy of schools.

"The office order has been quashed by the Delhi high Court, saying that it has no authority of law, and it is violative of the Constitution as well as the fundamental rights of the private unaided schools which have been given maximum autonomy in the day- to- day administration of their affairs," said lawyer Kamal Gupta.

"The 2007 guidelines which were laid down by the government have been held to be good and there was no reason as per the court to change them," he added.

Gupta said that now the authorities would have to confine themselves to mere regulation of education.

The court was hearing a batch of petitions filed by the parents against guidelines issued by Lieutenant Governor on December 18, 2013 on the admissions.
