Hospitals are in ICU, say parties

Rs 100 crore has been allotted to Osmania and Gandhi hospitals each

Hyderabad: The pathetic condition of the government hospitals in the city as well as in the Telangana state came up for sharp criticism from the Opposition parties in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Even friendly party, the MIM, did not spare the government. Opposition MLAs brought the deteriorating situation in the state hospitals to the notice of the state government.

They said poor people in the state are the worst-affected as they could neither avail the Aarogyasri scheme in the private hospitals, nor can get treatment in the government hospitals due to dearth of doctors and medical equipment.

MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said, “The finance minister had announced in his Budget speech that Rs 500 crore was allocated to the hospitals, but it is not reflected in the Budget copies supplied to us.”

Telugu Desam MLA T. Prakash Goud said, “Patients visiting Osmania and Gandhi hospitals in the city are facing several hardships due to lack of minimum facilities.

If this is the situation in capital city, one can imagine the condition of government hospitals in rural areas.”

Deputy CM and health minister Dr T. Rajaiah replied, “It’s not fair to blame the TRS government for the present condition of the hospitals in state.

We have come to power just about six months ago. The situation will definitely improve.” He said Rs 100 crore has been allotted to Osmania and Gandhi hospitals each.
