Coal scam: CBI rapped for not grilling Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan on Tuesday filed a police complaint against CBI director Ranjit Sinha, charging him with abusing his official position to “shield the accused in the 2G spectrum scam.”

Meanwhile, intrigued as to why the then coal minister was not examined in connection with the agency’s probe into the allocation of the Talabira coal block to Hindalco in 2005, involving industrialist K.M. Birla, a Delhi court on Tuesday directed the CBI to furnish all relevant details and records regarding the issue.

The coal portfolio was being handled directly by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The investigating officer of the investigating agency, however, claimed that Manmohan Singh was not permitted to be examined.
