Nizamabad: Group politics in Telangana University have reached a peak with the in-charge registrar Prof. M. Yadagiri putting in his papers late on Monday night. A section of the teaching staff are divided into two groups on caste lines and have been fighting for supremacy.
The internal politics have hit administration of the university. Further, the post of the vice-chancellor has been lying vacant since long and it is feared that the resignation of the registrar would worsen the situation.
The faculty members are divided into SC and BC groups and keep on faulting each other on trivial issues, only to gain supremacy in the university affairs.
Compared to the other three universities in the state, namely Satavahana University in Karimnagar, Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda and Palamuru University in Mahabubnagar, the Telangana University in Nizamabad has gained a dubious distinction of being a hub of controversies.
In the wake of the troublesome situation on the campus, senior professors from the Osmania or Kakatiya universities show little interest to work in Nizamabad, even when offered key positions like the V-C or the registrar.
Earlier, Prof. Sailoo, owing to immense pressure from political leaders, had quit the registrar post of TU. Later, he was shifted to Kakatiya University. Coming to Mr Yadagir, the students alleged that he had produced fake certificates to secure promotion.
In congruence with the students’ allegations, the university had registered poor academic performance.
Speaking to this newspaper, a student of the university said the state government should take necessary steps to streamline things and provide quality education.
“We just are not able to understand if we should learn subject matter or playing politics, from the faculty members,” he added and suggested that erring faculty members should be dealt strictly to improve the state of affairs in the varsity.
The Telangana University was established in 2006 and since then, the university had recruited teaching and non-teaching staff thrice. There are allegations that ineligible persons made way into the corridors of the university with the blessings of some political leaders and offering huge bribes. Lobbying and money play a key role in recruitment to key posts than merit.
