Don’t believe Modi, says Sonia Gandhi

Congress chief blasted BJP as power hungry and said the insatiable hunger was not good
Patna: On the penultimate day of the first round of the five-phase Jharkhand Assembly polls, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi blasted the BJP as “power hungry” and said the insatiable hunger for power was not good for the nation. Mrs Gandhi while addressing a poll campaign in Daltonganj targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. She said “BJP is hungry for power and their hunger for power is not good for the country”. The Congress which had pulled out from Hemant Soren-led JMM government a month ago continues to support the party.
However seeing the situation at the ground level it is hard to say that the JMM has the kind of support it had earlier. Not only the Congress but the RJD too wants to strengthen the alliance and help the JMM in the formation of the government in Jharkhand. But according to the BJP the tribal vote bank is inching away from JMM and moving towards BJP.
The curtains on the campaigning for first round of polls fell on Sunday. Sonia Gandhi got rousing welcome when she landed in Daltonganj, the district which was chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch election campaigns for the BJP. At the rally he had attacked “dynasty” rule and asked the voters to get rid of the father-son duo of Shibu Soren and his son Hemant Soren.
Sonia Gandhi on Sunday addressed two rallies in Jharkhand.
Her hard-hitting address to the people, mainly the tribals, electrified the Congress workers.
The mood of Congress workers no doubt was upbeat, but the real picture in the state was different from ground realities. With Narendra Modi tall promises, political pundits have been predicting a swing in favour of the BJP.
“Things are really going to be tough for the Congress and the other alliance partners,” one of the villagers who had reached Chinyaki to listen to Mrs Gandhi said. It is a fact that the Congress has lost its ground in the current Modi wave everywhere in the country.
Sonia Gandhi said “BJP’s promises are utter lie; I appeal to you not to fall into the trap that was being laid by them”. She further said “they have always done divisive politics but we take everyone together”. She said BJP had been in Power in Jharkhand many times but did nothing. She referred to Arjun Munda’s tenure and alleged “corruption was at its worst in the state”. “It was BJP under whose regime Naxal spread its wings and now 22 districts of this state is badly hit”, she said.
Congress was trying to win back the lost grounds in Jharkhand. Sonia Gandhi while speaking in Gumla said “UPA gave crores of rupees for the development of the state but when BJP was in power in the state they didn’t use it”. She said NDA has no agenda, no original ideas so they were doing nothing except hijacking UPA programmes and renaming them. She said that “BJP has been laying trap for people everywhere and you must not fall into such traps”.
