Telangana plans to replace pumpsets

KCR held a meeting on Friday with representatives of Kirloskar Brothers

HYDERABAD: Though the finalised tender rates for solar panels were yet to be made public, the Telangana government got specific complaints that the prices quoted were much higher than the offers made by suppliers in other states.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao held a meeting on Friday with representatives of Kirloskar Brothers, on the possibility of procuring solar powered water pumps for the farm sector.

The government constituted a high powered committee to study the feasibility of replacing over 20 lakh pumpsets in farm sector in the state with solar pumpsets by analysing the impact on the power sector and the funds required for such a large project.

The TS government, which is reeling under severe power shortage, plans to replace traditional existing agriculture pumpsets with solar power pump sets to save power. It has also decided to give incentives to farmers who come forward to replace the pumpsets.
