A hotel in Red Hills was found using nine domestic water connections

Hyderabad: The city Water Board, grappling with the issue of illegal connections, causing it losses worth crores of rupees, is now faced with the issue of irregular connections.

Several commercial establishments in elite areas like Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Red Hills, including Nagarjuna Constructions have been found utilising multiple water connections under domestic category.

A hotel in Red Hills was found using nine domestic water connections.

“We recently disconnected the water connection to the office of Nagarjuna Constructions in Banjara Hills. We have been receiving complaints and accordingly disconnecting,” said Suryanarayana, executive director (revenue) of the Water Board.

It costs the Water Board Rs 40 to supply 1 kilo-litre of water, which it provides at a subsidised rate of Rs 10 to domestic users. Non-domestic users are charged Rs 40 per kilo litre.

Though there are several commercial establishments in Greater Hyderabad limit, only 23,113 connections are recorded with the city water board.

Around 80, 6076 connections are recorded under domestic category and 1,428 under industrial category.
