Bengaluru school rapes: FSL tests say no trace of blood on clothes

Tests conducted on both victim and accused in sexual assault cases were negative
Bengaluru: The results of the forensic tests conducted on the clothes of both victim and accused in sexual assault cases in Orchids The International School and the Indiranagar Cambridge School are negative, as there was no trace of blood or semen on the clothes.
Sources in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) told Deccan Chronicle that the tests were negative. It is, however, said that these results alone cannot point out that there was no sexual assault and the police could establish the crime by other means including circumstantial evidences.
“The police had sent the clothes of the three-and-a-half-year-old victi and the accused Gundappa in connection with the case that had taken place in Orchids The International School in Jalahalli on October 21. We had also received clothes belonging to the six-year-old victim and her teacher Jaishankar, who allegedly sexually assaulted the girl in the Indiranagar Cambridge School in New Thippasandra on October 30. In both cases, the experts tested the clothes and there was no trace of blood or semen on them and the test results were negative.
Generally cases are not reported to the police immediately after the incident. So, in most of the cases, report would be negative. Parents will not be able to recall what their child was wearing on the day of the assault. There are also chances that they may have washed the clothes after the incident, without knowing about the crime. These factors act as hindrance in gathering forensic evidence and eventually end up with results being negative,” the source said.
“Though the results are negative, we can not conclude that there was no sexual assault. If the report is negative, detailed investigation, eye witness, victims’ statements and few other evidences will help the police to prove that there was a sexual assault,” the source added.
NMS platform for child safety
Namma Makkala Surakshate (NMS) has set up a platform for child safety and invited schools in Bengaluru to take a pledge to make their institutions safe for children and report about action taken in this regard. The NMS release stated that the platform (www.nmsbengaluru.org) was set up on November 17 and 15 schools have taken the pledge and two have submitted about actions taken by them.
The website has over 20 articles on good practices, suggestions, opinions and guidelines. This is expected to grow as the schools, experts and parents contribute to the NMS platform.
