Pankaj Advani enters knockout stage

Indian cueist recorded his fourth straight victory of the tournament
Bengaluru: Barring the occasional smirk, head shake or raising of eyebrows, Pankaj Advani gives away little in terms of emotions when at the table. So on a warm Saturday morning, when displeasure was writ large on his face and he struggled to get into the groove; it was obvious not everything was hunky dory for the champion cueist at the IBSF World Snooker Championships here.
It wasn’t that his opponent, the highly competent Lucky Vatnani put up an extraordinary show. The testing conditions at the venue clearly seemed to be having an effect. The 29-year-old, though, recovered in time to record his fourth victory on the trot with a 4-2 scoreline.
In stark contrast, Bhopal talent Kamal Chawal registered a comfortable 4-1 win over Mikhail Terekhov. With the wins Advani and Chawla all but sealed knockout berths. “I am happy to come through this match. I couldn’t adjust to the conditions at the start,” said Advani.
